Shady Hill's faculty and staff are proud to deliver a quality education designed to meet the needs of all students and ensure our students become self-sufficient, responsible citizens. By using the resources and technology available at Shady Hill, students will be able to continue to grow academically.
The classroom instruction at Shady Hill is based on the expectations identified in the Florida Standards. Students in grades 3-5 will take Florida Standards Assessments in the areas of Reading and Math. Fourth and Fifth graders will also be assessed in Writing as well. Science is assessed by the FCAT 2.0 assessment for fifth grade only. The assessment schedule for the state of Florida can be found here.

Accelerated Reader is offered school wide to increase reading engagement. Students may read books of their choice and take Accelerated Reader quizzes at school. The Media Center is open in the morning for AR testing as well. Students have access to a plethora of resources through the Student Desktop, such as FasttMath, MyOn, and IXL.
Reading / Writing
Our core curriculum for reading is Savvas My View. We also use the iReady computer based program forty five minutes per week for students in Reading. Students receive additional intervention or enrichment opportunities based on individual need during CAT (Colt Academy Time) each day. This is thirty minutes per school day. Third through fifth grade students utilize the Write Score program for Writing support.
Mathematics
Go Math is our core curriculum. Additionally, we use the iReady computer based program for forty five minutes per week for students in Math. Students can also access FasttMath and IXL for additional math support through their student desktop.
Science
Our science instruction focuses on the elements of STEAM Curriculum. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Students engage in science labs and hands on activities on a regular basis to truly immerse them in the scientific process.
Shady Hill graduating 5th graders move on to one of the following middle schools: Osceola, Belleview, Liberty or Howard.
